Yes, Kevin Garnett is a dog

December 6th, 2008 by Dwight Jaynes | Filed under NBA, Trail Blazers.

Here, thanks to commenter Larry, is proof. At least partial proof, but you can’t see much of it. So a guy can get down on all fours and crawl at a Portland player like a dog, then get in the same guy’s face after a hard foul and taunt him — and not be fined? Exactly what is that about, NBA?

“I’ve never seen anything like that in my life,” Mark Jackson said on the ESPN commentary.

And seriously, the next time the Blazers play Boston, somebody’s got to make some sort of statement with a hard foul on Garnett. It’s great to say you’re going to laugh it off or ignore him but the guy’s not showing you any respect at all and someone’s got to get his attention. At some point, doesn’t an elbow have to be thrown? Or can’t you at least hammer him on a shot attempt? This is enough to make you appreciate hockey, where you can take care of things like this.

Yeah – I’m old school. But come on — the guy’s just begging for it. You wouldn’t let that stuff go unanswered at any level in any sport. In baseball, acting that way toward an opponent would get you a fastball in the ribs, if not the noggin. In football, you’re taking a chance on receiving a nasty crackback.

If Garnett doesn’t get fined for it, the league has no balls. And I’m not talking about Spauldings.

Time to sign a roving affiliate to a 10 day contract and turn him loose the next time they play Boston.

Glad you are writing about KG’s crazy antics and poor sportsmanship. Someone needs to point this stuff out. I thought he went too far last year, but this is ridiculous. Keep calling it like you see it, Dwight. And there’s no need to preface your statements with references to being old school, old-timer, etc. Hopefully, Henry Abbott will link to your last couple of posts about KG and it will get a lot more attention in the media.

a fine is in order, i agree. not to be overlooked: bayless handled the situation perfectly. dude is cooler than a hostage negotiator.

Not about being “old school.” It’s common sense. I’m still somewhat optimistic we’ll grow enough to see them in the finals this or next year :)

I find Garnett to be absolutely obnoxious..
since when do you gave to bang on your chest liek a caveman after a shot ?

Or get in our players faces,or on the floor ?

Oden got a technical for hanging on the basket,(Kobe, anyone?)yet old ugly Garnett can demean our rookie like that ?

I am an older fan, have been since 66..and when hip hop came into basketball,I didn’t like it,it seemed less professional to me.

But what I saw with Garnett was about as unprofessional as it gets..and if I were a player and saw him treat Bayless liek that i would have walked right on his hand and facwe and oops,I didn’t know you were down there.

    Dwight,I love your web site..please “talk”more.

Pardon my bad typing.I did it real quick at work.

I agree that Garnett’s behavior is seriously out of hand. It is the type of behavior that could easily escalate to real ugly things (indiana/detroit game ring a bell?). Garnett’s lack of respect needs to be answerd by the league front office…before it is too late

Peacequiet – Garnett also hung on the rim in the 4th quarter. Of course, no call.

  9. Chris says:

When Garnett was in Minnesota I don’t remember him being this psychotic. Was he? This just seems to be something that’s started in the last couple of years and I’m not joking when I say I am seriously wondering about his mental stability.

Garnett is as phoney as they come. I’m just glad that it is starting to be recognized publicly now. During the game the other night, I was begging to see someone pop him in the mouth. It’s strange to me that Greg Oden can dunk the ball with authority and get a “T” for doing a pull-up on the rim (which he does almost nightly and it never gets called) and Garnett does his superficial tough guy act, talk trash and that’s not taunting. NBA officisls suck. What a bunch of BS! KG is a piece of crap. I don’t care how good he is either. I don’t care about the fact that he’s a future hall of famer. He used to be a favorite of mine until I realized how fabricated and forced his chest thumping and trash talking was/is. I recall last season on more than one occasion, Ray Allen got in his face and told him to knock it off. You see, real “tough guys” don’t have to bark and try to show you that they are tough. Charles Oakley never did that. He just put guys on the floor. He was a bad-ass any everyone knew it and he never told anyone he was. The Blazers need a presence like that. Ya know Oakley, Mahorn, Lucas. Guys like that put would put a stop to Garnett’s garbage. Those guys are a dying breed in my opinion.

I guess I’ll be the contrarian on this thread. Part of the reason I love the Blazers so much this year is they’re such a classy group of guys. And I would hate to see them get dragged down to Garnett’s level by playing dirty. Garnett’s a punk. But let someone else deal with him. The Blazers should keep playing solid ball, and let Garnett be an idiot. Someone will get him eventually. Things have away of working themselves out in the end.

  12. Juan Diego says:

He did this during the first game of the season too, just got down on all four at the half court line. The first game of the season. Ugh. I was disgusted.

  13. Joe says:

just wanted to interject, Oden was not T’d up for hanging on the rim, it was for slapping the backboard

  14. Rusty says:

How can the NBA not respond to such obvious taunting? They banned Mutombo’s finger wag as being too much taunting.

  15. James says:

I am not one to ever advocate starting an altercation but Garnett has officially crossed the line. Someone needs to make sure he leaves Portland with railroad tracks (stitches) on his grill for this. You can’t let people show your guys up like that. The big problem is until the Blazers retaliate in a big

    What an a-hole.

    Amazing.

  16. James says:

    To end my comment:

Until the Blazers retaliate in a big way it’s never going to stop.
