Yankee Stadium closes — much ado about nothing
The New York Times’ Dave Anderson says it much more eloquently than I could — the ballpark is relocating across the street, for crying out loud. And it will still be called Yankee Stadium. Knock off all the sobbing, please. The old place was kind of a dump, anyway.

I think in this day and age, it’s nice that people feel passionate about a place. So often in our society we just throw things out without any regard for it’s historic value. I know for me, just walking into Yankee Stadium was a magical feeling. It could take years to get that same feeling in the new ballpark. I would argue that Yankee Stadium has more historical value than say, Lyndon B Johnson’s home. I can see it now…Yankee Stadium National Historic Site. I wonder if they are hiring.
I can see both sides. I remember years ago walking past Coogan’s bluff, just knowing what went on years before.
I also remember a couple years ago driving past the white sox new digs with the old one next door and wondering why they hadn’t torn down the hulk of the old building yet.
Ummm, so what if the old place is a dump? Yes they overdid it (that was ESPN as much as anything). But it was a historically significant place that a lot of special athletes and special moments happened in. The first house you ever lived in, even if it currently lays in disrepair, holds memories and a significance that may cause you to cry if you find out it is about to be closed down.
