Keith: thanks for the reply. Yes, I was talking about Suke & Isaac (hence, the world "local")...I am not a fan of Dan Patrick--he was really only semi-tolerable when Rob Dibble used to join/carry him...I agree w/you about Wheeler--really likeable guy who does a great job on the Blazer games, but to have his own radio talk show...yikes....give me Colin Cowherd, or failing that, Suke/Isaac--all of those guys are kinda immature (which can be good radio!!), but very funny and very talented--y'know, professional.

Remember the 1993 draft when rookie bust Scott Haskin was drafted fairly early? Ernie Johnson said, he can develop into a Jack Haley type, and Bob Lanier started cracking up! Ernie said, "I mean the GOOD things about Haley."

Dwight,
I'm concerned. Between the Civil War and the Blazers there's way too much good news right now.
I sensed it after the Ducks awesome win when you were trying to find a way to say, "But it was almost a bad thing!" You listed several plays that almost hurt the Ducks, before saying, "I don't want to demean Coach Kelly but..." It didn't work. There was nowhere to go.
Turning that glorious victory into a putdown was beyond even the Maestro of Misery's chops. And, as I've said before, you could come up with the downside of going to heaven.
At least the Blazers came through - we all had a solid jolt of misery over the Golden State game, but lately things have been looking too good. To quote Mike Rice, Greg Oden's "improving by the hour." The Blazers seem to be rolling, and now the Nets are coming to town.
       Frankly, I'm worried about you.
If something really miserable doesn't happen soon you may be forced to have a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you can handle it.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to ask Dwight to comment on the Mavericks losing at home to the warriors - the same team that after Portland lost to them on their court, he called out. Maybe, just maybe, the Warriors are playing strong right now and it's not ALWAYS that the Blazers have something systemically wrong with them.

Sorry to include this on this unrelated thread, but the original post discussing how awful the Blazers were won't get any more read at this point.

Hey, there's only room for one old fart on this blog, and thats Dwight. I hope you're referring to Isaac & Suke, they're top-notch, but if you're selling Dan Patrick as 100X funnier, I suggest you get your ears checked. Thats the MOST UNLISTENABLE brand of sports talk this side of Scott Farrell. If you like Dan Patrick, you probably would love John Clayton as a strip club DJ too. Gavin and CIP are quick-witted, and yes, sometimes sophomoric, but they bring variety, fun, and some edge to sports talk in PDX. Wheels is great, but his show and timed segments are so robotic, and Canzano is, well, Canzano. They're gonna rock the nation tomorrow and I hope Dwight gets a few minutes to plug his thoughts as well. Looking forward to it godfather.

Being local or national isn't a sure-fire way to determine the quality of a radio host. A lot of it is about being lucky and being in the right place at the right time.

How else could anyone explain how an ass-bag like Colin Cowherd could have so much national success?

Would I go out of my way to listen to Dwight (a pro who is interesting and really knows what he's talking about), were he on the Jim Rome show? The answer is yes.

Would I go out of my way to listen to Gavin/C.I.P. (he does know he isn't Jim Rome, right? Right?)? Sorry, no.

No offense to PDX, but there's a reason Gavin/C.I.P. are in PDX, and not a larger, more major league market. They come off as sort of amateurish--like they're in 7th grade still. Don't get me wrong, 7th grade humor can be fun, but you don't necessarily want to hear 25-30 year olds spewing middle school humor. The PM local hosts on ESPN Radio are 100X funnier and more listenable/interesting than Gavin/C.I.P, I.M.O...honestly, Dwight--you complimenting C.I.P./Gavin is sort of like Scottie Pippen giving mad props to Jack Haley for his hoop skills.
