The Blazers and the Bucks

The Bucks had no answer inside for Greg Oden. So Greg Oden got the ball. Nice idea. Nice execution. Might be worth trying again some night.

Did you notice they looked like they actually knew how to defend a pick & roll tonight? What a concept. Also, did you notice Quick’s smartass little article about the pick & roll D? What a douche. Anyway, yeah what are the odds that you get the ball to the beast in the middle and he makes things happen? I must say though, I did like the Hi-Lo action with LaMarcus making passes from the top of the key, very effective tonight. Hopefully that’s something they can work in more often.

    Blazer_Dawg;

Get a clue “Dawg/douche”, Dwight just addressed Quick’s piece in the post prior.

    Dwight:

You come off really snarky, salty and condescending in your blog. It’s unattractive. When I’m up in Portland and catch that postgame show that you’re in, you don’t seem as arrogant.

  3. Matt says:

@Glen If anyone knows “condescending” it seems to be you.

Anyway, tonight was vindication for all the fans that have been calling for the team to pound the ball inside. Great to see LaMarcus get into the act as well. That should be option #1 right now since Roy is still working himself back into game shape.

  4. Glen says:

    Matt/Jaynes-groupie,

Vindication? Pffft. Yup, because it’s that easy to pound it into the middle and Milwaukee provided superb low-post competition tonight.

  5. peacequiet says:

Would he have done as well with Bogut in there ?

I would have loved to have seen their top shot blocker in against
    Oden.

Would Oden pick up his quick fouls and sit on the bench or have
a career night like last night.

He was making the same moves toward the hoop he been making in the last 10 games or so. They finally hit him with the ball in positions where he was comfortable. He didn’t make every shot, but he made some nice ones and drew a lot of fouls.

This team need to get Oden the ball in situations where he can be successful. I’d like to hope that tonight was a big step in the right direction.

  7. Ricky Bobby says:

I wanted them to pound it in to LaMarcus as well. It will be nice to eventually have Greg or LA play high and go low to the other. Bogut is a solid player but I don’t think they stop both Greg and LA with him.

Maybe we could hire Shaq to work with the Blazers on their free throws?

I know many of us bag on Trav. He is doing a better job as the season goes on about getting to the rim. That is an important step for him as an offensive player that will allow him to do even more in the future.

It was good to see Greg move his feet better and keep his hands up instead of the folding over. No, don’t worry Greg haters, I am not crowning him the next big thing, it was nice to see improvement.

For those poster’s who are attacking the blog host, think of it as a TV channel, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it, in this case don’t read it. Stop taking things so personal. This blog is good for the most part because of the different perspectives. Boring blog if we all thought the same. Thus far we have really only had one intentional troll. She won’t post today because Greg had a good game.

  8. Griff says:

DJ – next time we get the big winter storm in PDX, we can save a ton of $$$ on de-icer and just salt the roads with your rhetorical hatred of the Blazers…Sam Adams would love that!

    I KID! I KID!

Keep up the good work. Personally, I tend to trust the man that has been covering professional basketball — and this franchise — for two decades before I trust a lot of other people (including some coaches). Can’t argue the obvious (unless you’re a shock-jock d-bag on 95.5 between the hours of…say…3-6?)

  9. Tom says:

He is hardly a ‘shock-jock’ however the other title does fit well. :)

  11. Griff says:

Yea, I just felt bad fitting him with only the “d-bag” title…thought I would sugar-coat it a bit, just b/c I do like 95.5

  12. Bob Whitsitt says:

Oden had a career night against what team ??? Oh that’s right the Milwaukee Bucks and their small lineup….even Manute Bol would have had a career night against the Bucks…..

  13. Griff says:

Who cares what team it was against. While Oden had a great night offensively, whether that is vs. the Bucks, the Thunder, 7 & 8 year-olds that dueled it out pre-game at the garden, the real stat that is noteworthy is that he played 35 minutes – only LMA or Brandan played as many or more (35 & 36, respectively). He got looks and was given an opportunity to play tonight. Will the outcome be the same against the Cavs? Probably not. But I would still like to see him get the minutes and touches. It has to happen sooner or later.

  14. Joe says:

bob, how often do “busts” put up stat lines like that against any opponents?

  15. Bob Whitsitt says:

It’s just one game…..and it was the Bucks Remember that the Oregonian has called Oden a “disappointment”…. and I know the Odenites bristle at the thought that anyone would think that Oden is a draft day bust…..

  16. Jim Beam says:

COME ON PEOPLE DO NOT FEED THE TROLL!!!! HE WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WAS THE 12TH DOUBLE DOUBLE. OBVIOUSLY A TROLL!

  17. Blazer_Dawg says:

1st off, Glen, why don’t you go choke on some poison and die. You are an ignorant asinine pathetic little man who would probably complain about someone giving you water that’s too cold even if you were dying of dehydration.

Get off your high horse, you are no better than anyone in here, as a matter of fact with the opinions you write on here you show you are less than most people on here. At least some of us actually have basketball backgrounds and know what we’re talking about a little bit and bring basketball thoughts to the conversation. You bring nothing to this discussion other than ignorant rhetoric. Go learn some facts, come back once they’ve suck in “real good”, then come in here and start talking crap. Until then, continue to be a retarded cynic. We don’t need your kind in Blazer Nation, and we sure as hell DON’T want your kind here.

  18. kilntym says:

Wow, I had to double check which blog I was reading. All of these posts that have little to do with basketball and more to do with people’s egos made me think I was on the O-Live blog. Oh, and the jabs at J Quick were a little unnecessary too. Post that crap on the other blogs.

So let me get this straight. Because GO had a big game against a team like Milwaukee, it somehow doesn’t count? Does a rookie center have to perform big against top-rank talent not to be considered a bust? In any case, it was nice to see the “Big Guy” have a good game against some NBA talent. Let’s see if he can carry that confidence in to another game.

  19. dfb says:

Anyone who has ever played basketball besides in middle-school or on the playground knows that the piece Quick wrote about the pick&roll is right on. After all, McMillan was allowed carte blanche on teaching p&r defense to the Olympic team and it worked out pretty well. The problems for this team have nothing to do with coaching, but with experience, and that just takes time. Getting the ball to Oden has as much to do with his ability to get the ball and receive it as it does with HOW they do it. It also depends on how the different teams choose to defend the post. What works with Milwaukee won’t necessarily work against Cleveland. Instead of demanding perfection now, let the team develop, they will great soon enough.

  20. Glen says:

    Blazer_Dawg:

Waaaah. Wrong, “Blazer Nation” doesn’t need illiterate retards like you.

  21. Glen says:

    Blazer_Dawg:

I’m not the cynic, retard. I’ve been critiquing Dwight’s relentless negativity.

  22. Glen says:

I can tell you that Dwight would welcome any attention, including me.
