Whew… glad that’s over!
March 25th, 2009 by Dwight Jaynes | 6 Comments | Filed in MeOK, I did it. For the rest of my life, when someone talks about standup comedy I can always say that I did it — and not only that, it wasn’t at some pizza parlor with nobody watching. It was at Harvey’s, the major-league spot in Portland for standup.
Comics work countless open-mic nights and bust their tail to get a chance for a few minutes at Harvey’s and I got that shot. I wish I could tell you that I killed, but I didn’t. It’s just not that easy, folks — as you can imagine.
And really, the best thing I can say about the whole thing is that it’s over. The audience was kind enough not to throw anything at me (or if they did, their aim was way off) and I didn’t even get heckled — proving it was a polite crowd. I overprepared and didn’t have a good feel for what I needed to do — if I ever get another shot at it, I’ll be better. A lot better (and, of course, I’d need to be).
Thanks to Ron Osborne, who not only gave me the chance to cross that one off the old bucket list, but raised some money for the Blanchet House. He killed, by the way, as he always does.
