Pick the way you want to win . . .

January 12th, 2009 by Dwight Jaynes | Filed under NBA, Trail Blazers.

The Blazers could name their own tune Monday night in Chicago. Want to win big, by pounding the ball inside? No problem. How about winning small with some three-point shots? That’s easy, too.

You watch these teams play twice and you figure it would be hard for the Bulls to beat Portland in 10 tries. There’s that much difference in the talent level of the teams. Roy and Aldridge had off nights and the Blazers turned the ball over too much. So what? Greg Oden pummeled the Bulls, Travis Outlaw got (and made) just about any shot he wanted and Portland feasted on open three-point shots. There isn’t too much else to say about the game.

Wednesday night’s game doesn’t figure to be so easy. The 76ers are playing much better, now that they’ve pretty much shaken Maurice Cheeks out of their system.

It was good to see Greg, Travis, and Bayless step up when the other guys had off nights. Kinda a sloppy game, but like Dwight said there is a serious talent difference out there that is obvious. Always glad for a win, always glad for a win on the road. Hopefully the turnover bug stays in Chicago.

Hey Bobbi W. Greg still sucks huh? Your man-crush Joel didn’t fair too well. Good thing Sam Bowie,er, mr. glass, er, first round bust, er Greg did ok with Joel in foul trouble.

Nice win, although sloppy, over a bad team. Despite going down by 11 early, I never did get the sense that the Blazers were ever in any real danger of losing this game. I was just waiting for Nate to make a few adjustments and for the team to get back on track. Sure enough, after a timeout in the 2nd quarter, the Blazers started feeding GO down low and it worked. What did he score, something like 9 of the Blazers 11 points to get them back even with the Bulls? In any case, the players, and Nate of course, did a nice job of exploiting the Bulls’ weaknesses (there are a lot to choose from).

On another note, did anyone think the Chicago broadcast of this game was flat? I live in AZ and I watch all of the games on NBALP, so I only get the home team feed. Watching the game last night gave me a whole new appreciation for Mike and Mike. I don’t know if the mic was turned down, but there was very little crowd noise during this broadcast. I guess if you are a Bulls fan, there is very little to be cheer about these days.

As annoyed as I get with Mike Rice sometimes… Mike and Mike are pretty good, compared to some of the guys I have heard watching league pass games

The Blazers looked good even though they looked bad on ocassion. Here’s the deal: Greg Oden. He is beginning to look like a Rookie of the Year candidate. Oh, I know it is too early, but if he puts together a second half of the season comparable to last night watch out! If he can the Blazers will be a legitimate contender to make the finals this year. And Travis Outlaw, don’t trade this guy. He really should be starting in place of Batum.

Mike Rice is the worst color guy in the NBA! I am glad somebody brought up Mike Rice because he has been getting worse and worse as the season goes on and I have a hard time following games on television because of this out-of-touch incompetent. I find his commentary ill-timed, tired and sometimes disturbing on the homerism.

Another thing that bothers me about Mike RIce is his seemingly endless love affair with Steve Blake. While Blake is a nice player he is far from objective, any little thing Blake does is seen as an action of something akin to the caliber of a Hall of Fame player. When Blake makes a mistake it’s always a generality against the “guard play.” When another player makes a mistake he’s quick to point the player by his name or some off-the-cuff diss.

I will also add that Rice’s little skit about Confucius is finger nail cringeworthy and culturally insensitive and I am not one of these politically correct Portlander types, but that is just plain bad radio and plays worse on t.v. on Comcast NW. Now that the Blazers have stepped up their talent level on all levels, it’s time to uprade Mike Rice.

Mike Barrett is awesome by the way. Any chance we can get a Mike Barett and Kevin Calabro combination?

The comedy !!!! Oden/Bowie has two decent games against two crummy teams and people are pounding their chests chanting ” ROOKIE OF THE YEAR !!! “……

    Bobbi,

LOL you are so funny! That was his 11th double double, I don’t think He is R.O.Y., but how can you say that he is not getting better? Bobbi what is sad about this is if he had a bad game you would be saying the same thing as always. Thanks for posting, I always need a good laugh!
