Oh, I get it — that Blazer-Philly game was “fixed”

You ought to read this. I don’t know who “JS Gilbert” is and I’ve never read the “American Chronicle.”

Here’s the opening paragraph of a VERY long piece:

Disgustingly, former Blazer Antonio Harvey has come out on the “Fifth Quarter” radio program on Portland´s 95.5 FM and publicly defended an obvious fix-job by NBA refs. The simple fact that Harvey would defend such detestable officiating shows that he not only does not deserve to represent the Blazers or their fans on the air, but also, he does not deserve to call himself a Blazer, or even to represent the fans of sports in general. Anyone who justifies thrown games and cheating officials cannot truly be considered a fan of sports.

The posted paragraph is enough reason alone, not to read the rest of the article. I’m a season ticket holder and long time fan, and it bothers me to no end when fans (obviously what this person is, not a true journalist), talk about a game being fixed. I do think a bad call here or there could cost your team a win, but always laying the blame on the referees when you lose seems childish. Philly came to play that night Portland didn’t. Javie had a few bad calls, but nothing as atrocious as last nights offensive foul called on Brandon Roy in the first quarter. How that call was made, I’ll never know, as the defender was standing directly under the hoop when Roy hit him. However, since the Blazers won, I didn’t here one fan last night say he thought that game was fixed.

I posted to the same article the other day and couldn’t help but laugh at the guy. At least he has passion for the Blazers I guess?

Thanks Dwight, for adding this looney to my side of the argument. The refs need to let the teams play like they did last night. They still won’t let the Blazers get physical, if Priz even touched Shaq they called him for a foul. That is why Priz played hands down a lot of the time on Shaq.

Still interested in why that one charge on Roy was called that way in the first half last night. That just seemed like a really weird call. He didn’t receive the ball inside the box.

After reading that article, there are definitely things I agree with and things I don’t. Do I think the refs intentionally fixed that game? No, but they couldn’t have made it look more like they were. That’s their fault. I’m not calling for Javie’s head or anything, but it really was the worst officiating I’ve ever seen (and I’m a Herzog era Cardinals fan). And I completely agree with the writer that Portland media should call out the NBA on that. I’m starting to get sick of the NBA’s ultra-corporate, contrived confidence tactics as well. Hearing Marv Alberts say “Lebron James” pretty much sums up how I feel about much of the NBA. It’s all about all-stars, glitz, and happy endings.

I quit watching the Philly game with about a minute to go when Igudala got 2 calls in a row. I knew we were not going to win. It certainly builds interest with so many teams staying within 2 games in the loss column.
