Did you catch the video that KATU got of Greg Oden in a two-on-two drill? Obviously, he’s looking healthy and strong. But listen to the soundtrack, right at the start of the video, where Kevin Pritchard says, “He does some things in this gym that, quite frankly, I’ve never seen before.”
Wow. That’s a pretty amazing quote right there. I mean, I assume Kevin saw Kareem and watched film or tape of Wilt. I know he’s seen Shaq and Duncan. And I also assume he was talking about basketball — not some sort of Stupid Human Trick that Oden does in the gym when the media’s not around. (“Hey guys, watch this — I can drink Diet Coke through my nose and make it come out my ears!”)
I hope Mr. Oden will be able to live up to all the hype being built right now. Or if not live up to it, live with it. By the time this season starts, the expectation level is going to be a heavy burden on those big shoulders.

Good to see you still writing, and via a blog nonetheless! I’ve just dropped your RSS feed into my Reader, so I’m looking forward to more postings on the Blazers, Olympics or other random thoughts.
Big statement indeed, though I have to say it was great to see him actually playing a bit, got me pretty pumped up. I think there will be a lot of people who just aren’t satisfied with Oden’s performance no matter what the big fella does. Me, I am just going to enjoy his first year and have fun watching his improvement grow and grow. Also I hope somehow to actually make it a game to see him in person.
Really glad to see you here. I’ll enjoy reading what you have to say (when you feel like it, and not a moment sooner!).
It’s an honor to be one of the first to express my appreciation of your body of work, and my anticipation of getting your input, watching this site shape local sports/cultural coverage. As a Blazer and Duck fan, I can’t wait for either to get underway… What a great time of year!
Greg just looked huge in that video. When he gets the conditioning down he’ll be unstoppable. He made Frye look like a little kid! I moved from Portland to Elko, Nevada 3 years ago and I’ve missed the Blazers. I can’t wait for this season to start!
