Nigel Burton as a defensive coordinator
Nevada, where new Portland State head football coach Nigel Burton was the defensive coordinator, ranked just 88th in the country in total defense last season, allowing nearly 400 yards per game. Nevada also ranked 113th in pass efficiency defense.
Now part of that, I assume, is because Nevada’s high-powered offense — that “pistol” thing with the tailback deep behind the quarterback, who is in the shotgun formation — scores quickly and keeps the defense on the field a lot.
My understanding is that Burton is planning on bringing that offense with him to Portland State.

Hi Dwight,
I was at the Press Conference today. Nigel did say he will be bringing the Pistol.
Excited to see it in action in September.
What are the per-possession stats? Have advanced statistics not yet come to football?
Any chance he’ll carry over the wearing of Glanville’s black cowboy hat?
I was personally hoping for Borges, but hopefully this coach will be the right fit
Does anyone care? Does PSU football even matter?
I am curious if there are actual people out there that paid for tickets this season with their own money and didn’t win them from a radio promotion… Does PSU play regular football or is it that 7 man thing. All I know is sometimes I look at box scores and teams are dropping 50+ points on these guys.
Hope this dude can turn the ship around, it is going to be hard competing for Saturdays against the Ducks and Beavs.
