Former Trail Blazer power forward and current assistant coach Maurice Lucas is in a Portland hospital fighting, according to a team source, a virus of some sort. No other information is known at this time but Lucas missed Sunday afternoon’s exhibition game at the Rose Garden against Utah.

Man. This injury bug apparently doesn’t care if it is a past or present Blazer.
Get well soon Maurice. You’re the man.
Here’s hoping you’re well soon Luke. My prayers are with you.
I just visited him about an hour ago…he’s doing better. I’m a relative of him, and I won’t say anything else. But, just a status report: He’s recovering from the surgery, and he’s fairly weak. But one of the things that I’ve always love about him, is that he always has the same mind, and knows when to be serious or funny. The thing is, is that no one knows what the virus was, and they’re sending a sample of it to New York. I hadn’t been to a hospital in so long, but when I got inside, it was painful to see him laying down. He could move and what not, and he was actually on his laptop when I walked in, but he was still a little out of it. Of course, that could just be the lack of sleep, too. But, I’m wishing the best to him. I love him to death.
In college in the 70’s as a 6′6,” 165 pound forward I wanted to be like Maurice Lucas. When I found out that Luke was a vegetarian I even marched my narrow behind into my coach’s office (at Lambuth College, Jackson, TN) to announce that I, too, was going meatless! I always admired Luke’s play on the court and what I read of his demeanor off. I am now a pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal church and I join my prayers with those of so many others for Luke’s speedy recovery from the bladder surgery I read about a few days about. God bless you Luke and good well soon.
Maurice,
You are a truly great man and I will always remember your help and support while I was going thru a divorce from my former husband, when you were my neighbor in Phoenix. It was a very difficult time for me and you and your wife were great. Especially you, when my children needed a strong man in their life. You are a lot different than the average athlete and I will always appreciate all the things you did to help me when Gary was such an incredible asshole.
Sorry we lost touch, but me and my dad speak of you often and respect you for being th man that you are!
Maurice,
You continue to be an incredible inspiration to me and so many others.
Some words and terms that come to mind when I think of you are: compassionate, sincere, insightful, wise, noble, authentic, passionate, motivated, understanding, multi-dimensional strength, intuitive, fascinating, generous, balance and spirit. And…you believe in people!
My son and I love and respect you, and pray for you every day!
Very sincerely,
Lonna
