Yes, Duck apologists, you knew I’d be writing this today. But you couldn’t help yourself — you just had to come here and read it once you saw this story.
When I wrote a couple of weeks ago — sparked by a very insightful note from a reader — about the chances of the Ducks giving Blount a second chance, you pooh-poohed it. Oh, Chip Kelly would never do such a thing! Yeah, sure he wouldn’t. Even if the Ducks could jump into the Rose Bowl race with the help of a power running back to go with that speed back they’ve found.
I also wondered several times why Blount was sticking around, going through practice and (maybe) attending classes. Without a carrot on the end of a stick in the form of a chance to play later in the season? I’ve doubted it all along.
What bothers me the most about the whole thing is that this is one more example of the way star athletes are often treated in this system of ours. You think Blount hasn’t been down this road before? You think part of the reason he acted out is that when he’s done so in the past he’s gotten off the hook for it?
I’m betting he’s been coddled, babied, given second and third chances since he was old enough to show people he could carry a football with authority. And I’m not being specific to Blount — although he’s been suspended by the Ducks before — I’m just saying that’s the way it’s being done these days with some of our athletes.
Yeah, give the kid one more chance, you say. He’s learned his lesson.
Oh, sure. I’m positive he’s learned his lesson all right. I’m just not so sure what the lesson is.
And what does this say about the University of Oregon as an institution when the university president, the athletic director and the head coach all come out firmly and say the player is suspended for the season and just a few weeks later we’re being told there is another plan in place for him to play at some point this season?
I guess it means you really can’t trust those people. You can’t believe what they say. I just wonder if there’s a kid down there in Eugene who has been disciplined by the school for some sort of college tomfoolery — maybe a kid who can’t help get the football team into a high-priced bowl game — who will get the same form of second chance from the university?
I doubt it.

The hypocrisy of big time college football never ceases to amaze. This hypocrisy permeates everything about the game, the players, the coaches, the booster clubs, the universities, the conferences, the NCAA, the networks, the…
Again I pause to wonder, why does anyone ever doubt the wisdom of the Godfather?
Oh come on Dwight. All the naysayers right now are just guessing as to how it all went down. Who knows what has actually happened to cause this change. You all sound like a bunch of conspiracy theorists. Maybe Chip and company started to realize the punishment was just a little too harsh. Lets wait and hear the explanation before jumping to conclusions about how ‘you can’t trust anyone…its all about money, yada yada yada…’
It is generally understood that we are the product of heredity and environment (our teachers). Chip and the University are saying that being taught (environment) can significantly influence an individual’s behavior (remember the movie “Trading Places”?).
Dwight is talking about LGB as if the heredity factor will win out no matter what. Case closed, end of story. LGB is what he is, no matter what NEW teachers or circumstances bear down on him.
What do you say, “NATURE VS. NURTURE?” What are the percentages, and how might your view influence your opinion about LGB in this situation?
The Naivete in your response is overwhelming. At what point, after a guy has been suspended once before, do you realize that he’s not going to learn his lesson? For that matter, are you stupid enough to believe that this all started happening when he got to UO? Dwight is right. This is a pattern with Blount Force Trauma…he’s NOT GOING to learn his lesson.
I take it you are a nature guy and you were just born to be a better person. How lucky for you and how sad for those …
I could not have said it any better. People wonder how the Michael Vicks of this world happen. THIS is how they happen. These kids live in a surreal world with no meaningful consequences for anything bad they do. The utter hypocrisy of this whole sham would be laughable were it not all so sad.
Oh come on, you don’t think Vick paid a price? If you punched a colleague at work, got fired by your boss and then spent two years in jail you don’t think you would feel you paid your debt to society? Would you expect no other employer should ever hire you?
Keep in mind Blount wasn’t even charged with a crime.
Vick didn’t punch somebody and get 2 years. Vick and his buddies tortured and slaughtered countless innocent animals either for profit or enjoyment. He deserved what he got.
All this proves is that the *ucks program is a joke and it is ALL about winning at all costs! LGB is a thug, plain and simple. He has been a horrible student all through HS and in college. All of a sudden he writes an “apology” letter to the student paper and he is a campus hero. The guy is a ZERO, dumber then a brick, trouble maker on and off the field, and a horrible person the represent the state and university. Welcome to CHUMP Kelly football everyone, ncaa violations will be coming soon as he doesn’t care about the student part of student athlete…and take off that damn, goofy visor you overwieght baffoon of a coach!
I can’t believe I’m actually replying to this, but come on…be at least just a little reasonable. You sound like a real jerk, but I’m sure in real life you don’t sound like that. Talk like a grown up.
Maybe you should add something to the conversation instead of just spouting off about what I post…typical *uck fan, can dish it but can’t take it. EVERYTHING I said is 100% true.
“EVERYTHING I said is 100% true.”
“he doesn’t care about the student part of student athlete”
can you show me a copy of his transcripts? or are you just stating what you think is the truth? The fact is you just know what you are told.
Sorry but being a typical *uck fan I have no choice.
Where do you get your “TRUTH”? Your tone resembles an Imbecile.
Don’t mind Westside. He is part of Bitter Nation, err Beaver Nation.
How was that Rose Bowl last year?
WestsideGuy, if you believe this move makes the Duck’s football program a joke you have been living under a rock the past 20 years. Who are the highest paid state employees in most states? Head college football or basketball coaches. Why is this? Major college football & basketball programs bring in millions of dollars and national exposure for the university and state they represent.
Uh, stolen sheep, DUIs, DUI destroying public bus stops, shooting guns in a neighborhood. Any of this ring a bell, Mr. Pot?
Ha…LGB LOVES his pot. It is a known fact.
You sound like you know him personally…no? Then you’re just full of sh1t.
Big time college sports is and has been about winning at ALL costs. Anyone who thinks otherwise is very naive’
I’m guessing WestsideGuy you probably haven’t seen his HS and college grades, so who are you to say he’s a horrible student or “dumber than a brick”. He couldn’t be too dumb, he’s gotten himself reinstated!
I can accept I was wrong with how I thought this was going to play out. I thought LGB was done for the year. I’m not a big fan of the decision (whatever that is since we don’t know yet) and it just makes this a story again when it doesn’t need to be.
I’m glad UO isn’t 1-3 right now because then it would be really hard to accept as it would just look like a desperate move to win at all costs.
However, as much as I didn’t really need LGB back on the team this is clearly about Kelly and LGB and what Kelly is ultimately deeming as fair to him. This isn’t about anything else. Chip knows he’s going to take a lot of heat from the local media (national media is actually pretty supportive of this) for this and is going to have to answer questions about it the rest of the year. He’s decided all that is either worth it or doesn’t factor into his decision at all.
And besides, I like coming to this site daily for Dwight’s take on things and when Oregon is just winning games and dominating highly ranked teams while OSU’s season is on the brink of collapse, Dwight always seems to be on vacation. I was hoping for a few more thoughts than one single sticking to the facts line about UO v. Cal but oh well.
And bottom line, there are so many stories out there from both UO and OSU with how MAJOR incidents have been swept under the rug over the years involving star players, it would make your head spin. To think LGB’s incident is anywhere close to the worst thing a player at UO or OSU has done this decade is laughable. It doesn’t make it right, it just puts it in some perspective.
@EM
Those alleged “major incidents” didn’t happen on national television. You’re just assuming there were problems when realistically they weren’t anything that couldn’t be handled by the players and coaches.
The Ducks are making this move because they are 3-1, thinking about the Rose Bowl, and they want to get as much talent as possible for the Pac-10 schedule. I’m not saying I wouldn’t want to do it, but it definitely sends the wrong message.
My favorite part is the apology letter that was apparently written by a college english professor errr I mean Blount. U of O is pretty good at this big money “smooth things over” scenario.
The “major incidents” are all legit, both at UO and OSU. And I can guarantee you, both schools have brushed things under the table that are far more severe than what LGB did on national television.
I know no one will believe my anonymous post to a blog, so be it. I’m not here to prove anything to anyone.
But when you look at the national media and their reactions to this story today, its pretty positive. I think its pretty positive because guys like Ted Miller or Colin Cowherd who have sources and/or close ties to many D1 schools, knows what truly goes on at these universities more than the average fan would like to believe. This incident? High profile, but minor overall.
All I am saying is if you are a fan of a D1 football program, you live in a glass house 99% of the time. UO had to act on this one BECAUSE it happened on national television.
Dwight,
You are unbelievable in your conjecture. And you know it. I can’t believe you would write this stuff and pass it off as anything more than journalistic fluff. “I’m betting he’s been coddled, babied, given second and third chances since he was old enough to show people he could carry a football with authority.” How arrogant, rude, and downright cruel of you to assume the worst without having ANY SORT of proof or context. Its obvious you have a vendetta against him and perhaps college sports in general, which may or may not be fair. But perhaps this isn’t the arena for that debate to take place in, as it comes at the expense of someone else. But ah, as a journalist, “the TRUTH” is what we are after here, right Dwight? Grow up.
This is a personal weblog. It’s not a newspaper.
I agree with SoulBlazer. LeGarrette is just a misunderstood soul who sometimes assaults people for no apparent reason. Clearly, he deserves to have a full ride scholarship at an academic institution of his choice (preferably Oregon so that our students can benefit from his presence). Maybe he can run for student body president! Sock it to em LaGerrette!
SeoulBlazer : how much hippie lettuce have you smoked? This is a BLOG not Sunday church service. This is the perfect arena for this kind of debate. This is what a BLOG is for. Dwight voices an opinion on a hot topic and we get to debate our side. Give the “Godfather” some respect!
All of this about it being a “blog” is true, but I think Dwight holds himself to a higher standard, and has talked about as such. Why else would he want to make this a “premium” sports blog if not for the privileged, FACTUAL things he might provide the reader with. So yes, I think I do have the right to expect him to give us real reporting, as he has, in the past, talked about holding himself to.
Comrades we should redistribute his scholarship to someone more deserving like a walk-on. Equal pay for equal work right? Maybe redistribute the entire scholarship system so everyone gets a half scholarship. Send Blount to the Gulag! Sorry, pulled a double shift…….But really, I don’t believe Blount should be allowed on the team. However that being said, the NCAA is hypocricy at its finest and exploits student athletes. Until the system is cleaned up the Blount issue to me is moot, I don’t agree with it, don’t support it, and as a consumer I have the right to no longer support the Ducks. So I won’t.
There have been a couple of nationally televised games since the LB incident where a player punched another player and those guys got 1 game suspensions.
When this first happened given all the hubbub I agreed with the full season but seeing it in context, that was extreme.
He should have been given an “indefinite” suspension. That would have kept the door open for reinstatment and given Coach Kelly and AD Belotti more credibility today.
I want to commend Blount for that eloquently written “apology” letter. For a guy who never goes to class, he sure can write.
Reading most of these comments makes me laugh. Lets take a trip to reality people. Big time college football programs have become bigger than the Universities they represent. A successful football program brings in millions to the university and subsidizes other athletics and scholastic activities. You can debate weather that is good or bad for our society, but it’s just reality. If LGB can help the team win they will find a way to get him back in. The University does not pay $30K+ on scholarships for LGB or for that matter any of the other football players for their scholastic ability. Some college football players embrace both the athletics and scholastics, but that is not why the university targeted them. Coach Kelly made a quick decision to drop him and has the right like everyone else to reevaluate the situation once the dust settles. LGB has done the right things and shown contrition. This has nothing to do with a 2nd or 3rd chance. The kid did something dumb in college. Unfortunately for LGB it was in front of a national audience. How many of us did something we regret in our youth? Calling LGB a “Thug” is ridiculous. He is a college kid who let his emotions get the best of him. Stop looking at this from some holier than thou view point. College football players are paid (Scholarships) to do one thing, win football games. That is the reality not just for the Ducks, but every college football program.
It is just a few hours to early for me to take a position. I want to hear what LB had to do to get re-instated. Also, did LB know there was a chance for re-instatement. I do get the sense that Kelly really cares as much about what people outside of the program think as he does about the players.
sorry meant to say “Kelly really doesn’t care”
Whats wrong with you jaynes? All you do is complain. I think you do have something personal with blount. He must have had relations with your wife or someting
Dwight, (you got my email send me one if you feel inclined)
I read a blog by you once before and i could not have disagreed with your opinions and have never hated a blogger as much as you. What have you done as a person? What rights and wrongs have you been apart of?
Your first question is going to be, why are you reading my stuff if you dont like it? My answer is, because the big timers at ducksportsnews.com for some reason post your shitty blogs. I didnt even finish reading your article because you have no heart. Not for the University and certainly not for 18-22 year old kids. He is a kid, have you and the rest of the world forgot that he has a whole life ahead of him. He is not a murderer that should get the death penalty.
Did you catch the Michigan player that hit another during the game? Probably not. Why? Becuase it was during the game and cameras were shooting else where and helmets were on. ITS ALL CIRCUMSTANCES…
I have said it all along, make the punishment fit the crime. Bring back LaGarrette Blount Game 6 (5 game suspension).
Just wanted to give a heads up. LaGarrette Blount was suspended INDEFINITELY by Coach Chip Kelly. Most of the media read that and immediately regurgitated as him being suspended FOR THE SEASON.
“Indefinitely” does not mean “Forever” or “Definitely”
Just thought I’d point this out. Check this out http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/indefinitely
True. But Kelly also said that there was no circumstance under which Blount would play football on Saturdays.
I’m an old dude of 72, and in all my life I’ve not read or talked to anyone as cynical and bull headed an “Mr.” Jaynes!
If Coach Kelly feels his point has been made and LG has accepted full responsibility, and feels LG is once again able to step back into his place on the team, isn’t this really between the two of them?? Aren’t we “outsiders” just looking over shoulders to see our brother gat caught while we get away scott free for our own transgressions? GO LG, and suck swampwater, DJ.
You’re right Dwight, this says bad things. If I wasn’t sufficiently cynical about Ducks football before, I certainly am now.
Come on guys, I said I was sorry.
Where to begin.
I am sure everyone commenting here, there, and everywhere has kept their cool at all times. Never having lost tempers. Always staying calm no matter what happens.
And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? [Matthew 7:3]
Dwight, I guess you told us so.
Here’s my take
http://www.oregonsportslive.com/uo-football/blount-backhttpwww-oregonsportslive-comwp-adminpost-phpactioneditpost934
It seems like had the team been open about the possibility of return from the beginning this backlash would’ve been minimal. The Ducks better not bring him back for the USC game. That’ll simply reek
GOD DAMN IT. I AGREE WITH WILL.
No, dumbass, you don’t know LGB. Stop pretending that you do for the sake of something to attack a program which is superior to the beavers in every way.
Westside Guy:
Your points may be valid, but only if you had the same harsh assessment of the Oregon State program after Riley reinstated Joe Rudolf a couple years ago. Unlike Blount, Rudolf didn’t assault a football competitor who taunted him; no, Rudolf assaulted an American vet whose “sin” was to be out with a woman of a different race at a night club.
You tell me who was the more “horrible person” in representing their university.
One can only assume that you believe OSU is a “win at all costs” program and that Riley is a chump who doesn’t care about the student part of student-athlete. Right?
If not, you’re a hypocrite.
the Rudolph incident stunned me. I can’t believe that a Beaver has the cajones to talk to anyone after that
I’m always amazed why Dwight even discusses college sports. You don’t care about the sport so why bother?
Shouldn’t be covering what Oden had for lunch, or what time Andre Miller went to bed?
Whoops I posted the wrong link there. Dwight if you could sub that out I’d appreciate it.
Dwight, I guess you told us so.
Here’s my take
http://www.oregonsportslive.com/
It seems like had the team been open about the possibility of return from the beginning this backlash would’ve been minimal. The Ducks better not bring him back for the USC game. That’ll simply reek
We have multiple stories at work here:
1. Kelly overreacted. As a first year coach caught up in a huge media firestorm, he jumped the gun and handed out a punishment for which there was no precedent.
He knew that LGB was expecting a child and wanted to give him the opportunity to earn a degree and showcase himself for the NFL when the camps come to Oregon. I believe he genuinely cares about him and didn’t want to throw him out completely.
Now he’s realized that he screwed up by dishing out the stiff punishment. If Kelly is man enough to admit he was wrong then great. Much better than “stay the course”: It takes guts to admit a mistake and make a change.
2. Barner maybe going back to DB, which means we might need LGB at running back. Though if he doesn’t come back for 3-5 more weeks, as speculated, then I don’t know how much that factors into the decision.
I agree with not suspending Blount for the entire year. Especially after seeing how things little punishment there is around the rest of the NCAA (See: Hout’s punishment & the Michigan players punishment). Punches are thrown all the time and not punishment is never handed down.
Blount did a lot more than punch someone. He had also already been suspended once
His prior suspension was for missing a couple of team related functions.
So far as I know he hasn’t been in any other trouble for fighting?
Any Duck fans who can verify that?
No, he punched someone. And exchanged words with fans. It was on national tv, that is the difference. And frankly, he punched someone after being taunted and tapped.
So, let me get this straight. Blount punched the kid from Boise State because, deep down, he knew that his punishment would be 8 games rather than the entire season? That entered into his “calculation”? And he knew this how?
Dwight, did not bother reading your whole article, as I could tell the way it was going early on, (duck hating). The guy punched somebody. This whole thing reminds me of when a friend of mine got in a lot of trouble at a local Eugene high school game years ago for punching and breaking the jaw of another player. Everyone wanted to throw him under the bus and went to town trying to tear this hid apart. He was the biggest name in oregon high school sports at the time.
People close to him knew what the player had said to my friend, called his mom or sister the N word, for that the guy deserved to get his jaw broke, my friend, just like Blount just should of waited until after the game!!!
Dwight why don’t you do some research on Blount? See if he has ever been in trouble. Research his character. Find out what type of person he is. Then you can reach an informed opinion instead of branding him as the sterotype “star” athelete. I do not know the answer, but I think you should take the time to research his character. Also, I do not understand why someone cannot be trusted if they change their mind on an issue. Have you never reversed a postion or changed your mind about anything?
So…
A millionaire dirtbag named Darius Miles should be afforded every opportunity in the world, no matter how many times he screws things up for himself and his teammates and no matter what damage it does to the organization that made him extraordinarily rich?
A troubled amateur athlete and new father, however, should be given no more chances after embarrassing himself and his school? And he certainly should not be given the opportunity to redeem himself in the eyes of his teammates, fans, and professional scouts?
This is America, Dwight. Second- and third-chances may be frowned upon in the sports talk radio circuit — where righteous anger is the pinnacle of discourse — but most of us believe that young people who make mistakes and have personal problems need to be helped, not cast away.
Oregon proved last week that they can win big games without Blount. They don’t need him. But he needs a chance to prove himself, both for his own personal image and his chance at a caree — message boards and talk radio be damned.
He had his chance to prove himself, after his first few screw ups and suspension…. Guess that doesn’t count?
he was suspended for missing team functions, not for something like beating up a soldier on leave from Iraq. That would be a season-long supsension, right?
the only question here is ….
who is the bigger duck hater – you or canzano
where is your outrage to the michigan incident in Sept where a michigan player punched a notre dame player with an uppercut to the chin AFTER THE PLAY WAS OVER and the michigan coach denied it ever happend?
free legarette!!!
this decision is the right one – you dont throw your unpaid employees under a bus for one mistake
Don’t think that was the same kind of punch…and it was during a game! LeThugs punch was well after.
Again, this was not even close to LeGarrett’s first mistake
I could care less for the Ducks program….and the Beavers. When you really think about it, there both under tier programs. You have two types of programs in this country: One that plays to win nation championships and one who doesn’t. The Ducks and Beavers fall into the one’s that don’t. The Ducks don’t start the season thinking about winning a nation championship…which kinda makes them a joke doesn’t it? But here is my question; Why isn’t Blount in jail? Didn’t he assault someone? After the game was over? I mean, if I was at that game and walked up and punched a Boise State fan after the game, wouldn’t I have gone to jail? Is there some law I’m missing here?
It’s apparent just by the reinstatement itself, without any regard for the personal feelings of Dwight & others, that the priorities of the University are in creating a football program with complete disregard to the type of student they graduate.
And so another ATHLETE is added to our society – someone who has been taught that the ultimate goal in life is not becoming a better person, not becoming a valuable and contributing individual to our society as a whole, but becoming an ATHLETE, at whatever cost to that society.
“LOSING FAITH IN HUMANITY, ONE PERSON AT A TIME”
it must be such a benefit to be as wise and all knowing as you. to know that LGB is not attending class. to know that a man cannot change without some incentive. to assume that disappointment in ones self is not enough to motivate. to know that because he is an athlete that he has been coddles and babied. you are the “man” who sounds coddles and babies and naive and ignorant and a bigot. pull your head out!
It’s a blog…it’s an opinion. Shut up and read for crying out loud if you think the blog sucks stop coming. You’re like a bunch of 5 year olds.
Insert whiney kid voice “Dwight you don’t know anything about the ducks or college football we hate you, all of us, but we’re going to waste our time writing 3 page responses to your blog. I hate your guts Dwight!”
To the people commenting about him not attending class, I believe that school has just started very very recently for the year at the U of O, so NOBODY has been attending class.
Second of all, about why wasn’t he charged? Probably because there is language in the law that if someone does something to provoke you, then charging someone isn’t black and white, it’s a big old gray area.
Guys punch each other in bars, nightclubs every single evening of the year and NO they aren’t all getting arrested and later charged with assault.
There wouldn’t be enough jail space if they all got arrested and locked up.
I want to know where the outrage is that Hout was never suspended for his part in this? Or where’s the outrage that the guy who threw the chair at Blount in an attempt to assault him wasn’t arrested?
Or the outrage that the controlller of the video board at the Smurf wasn’t punished for showing the punch, over and over and over? I thought it was illegal to yell fire in a crowded movie theater when there’s no fire, well continuing to show just the Blount side of the punch on the big screen is the same thing.
So are you in the camp that thinks Hout deserves a suspension? Did you think Blount deserved on before the BSU game? Do you see a double standard?
All you Duck fans say Hout deserved to get punched for spouting off to Blount…well same goes for Blount then for spouting off before the game…and then rushing for negative yards. He’s a headcase
Good common sense article Dwight. I really think it is in UofO’s best interest to keep him away from the team. He is like the Z-Bo of football, big numbers but that doesn’t always mean he is helping the team. We will see though. It is sad the press was finally starting to say positive things and then this happens and UofO muddies up their image again. Oh well, at least the Beavs have turned around from the DE days, but still you would like to see a better effort from Eugene.
BTW, I agree the punishment was a bit harsh, but I don’t think reneging on your word is a better option. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
I just heard D-Miles is considering going back to school to play receiver, he still has eligibility.
John Canzano, like Dwight Jaynes, is a great writer, but he IS a BHB.
Oh, by BHB, in a non-bad way, “bald-headed b__tard.” And, the “b-word” is meant in a laughing way.
Who could ever trust these people agin?
I remember a time when at a youth church outing, an adult leader knocked on our hotel door, and asked “who’s smoking in here.” Brian said, “Not me” with cigarette smoke coming out of his mouth.
So, who can trust them? Not me (with cigarette smoke coming out of my mouth).
For all of you saying they are going to bring back LGB because all the Ducks care about is winning, I’d like to point out that the Ducks are 0-1 with him in the lineup and 3-0 with him out.
Answer this: if the Ducks were 1-3 right now, instead of 3-1 with a nice shot a winning the conference, do you think the Ducks would still mess with trying to bring Blount back? I highly doubt it. They think they smell roses, and having another talented back looks nice to them. Unfortunate
Yes, I do think they would “mess with trying to bring Blount back”. I think they want to help the kid regain some of his draft stock and help him get to the next level. Things like that help when trying to recruit new players.
I’m pretty sure they only gave him such a lengthy suspension in the first place because of all of the national attention the story was getting. Now that everything has settled down thay have had a change of heart.
To be Blount with you, I thought that keeping him away was addition by subtraction. Remember adding Rod Strickland (great on paper) to the Blazers in 2000-01, and how it helped tear the team up? I hope that that doesn’t happen to the Ducks.
73 responses now. sorry to say i have only read a few.
Original punishment exceeded the crime in my view.
But how can they retract now?
But this is Duck land
Gee Dwight wasn’t it you who said we all should give Vick another chance?
Now your saying you don’t like how the ’system’ coddles star players?
Hypocrosy indeed. Your REAL beef isn’t the system. It is with the University of Oregon. You felt mistreated and disrespected by them so when any hot topic like the Blount situation arises, you take advantage because it fits in with your bias regarding the school
Your Narcissism knows no boundaries. You have no ability to be objective at all. Your own hypocrosy proves thattime and time again
Panama, to be fair Michael Vick did spend a year in jail, lost his ability to make money and does have to pay restitution. So, yes he has earned a 2nd chance. In addition, he’s not getting a 2nd chance with Atlanta he’s having to go somewhere else. Two entirely different situations.
What nobody has addressed here is who pays for all of this?
Dr Harry Edwards (more on him later) isn’t cheap. I am sure Tony Dungy isn’t either. My question is if a non football player had they same issue (probably would of been arrested) wouldn’t they have had to pay for all of this? This year U of O tuition went up 13% how it is fair that LB gets all this expensive “FREE” care? Oh I know it is a teaching opportunity. Well a costly one.
Note: on Dr harry Edward. I suggest people Google him and they will find that he has quit a history with controversial issues in sports. My question is was he there to help LB or just further his agenda. I heard the interview on 95.5 The Game and the old tough life growing up black male struggle rhetoric replayed. Hey what about the ten of thousands of black males that don’t act out? Remember “All Behavior is learned and all behavior can be unlearned” after 5 chances I think he simply waited for the system to again give him a pass on someone else’s dime. There is no accountability in they way this was handled and doubt there ever will be in LB life until something really goes wrong. Two words – Donte Stallworth!
Coach Kelly what happens when LB blows up again? Are you ready to submit your resignation?
