It’s my blog and I’ll cry if I want to
There were two possible events recently scheduled for the Rose Garden that won’t happen. I would have bought tickets — even though it would have been spendy — for each of them and I’m upset I don’t have the opportunity.
The most obvious was the UFC card on Nov. 15, whether it featured the Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesner main event or not. There was talk that perhaps that event didn’t happen because of the heavy taxes in Portland on boxing and wrestling matches. Not true, says Chris Oxley, the general manager of the Rose Quarter.
“I think, in the end, with Randy coming out of retirement, it was just that it was such a big fight, it had to be in Las Vegas,” Oxley said. “But UFC was great to work with. And they are committed to coming here in the future.”
The other event? Well, I’m a sucker for Orange County Choppers — it’s my favorite (and only) reality show and they had been scheduled to be here next week for a tour stop in the Rose Garden. But that date was later dropped and I guess someday I’m just going to travel to their world headquarters in New York to see Paul Sr. and Paul Jr. fight and Mikey goof off.
