Hedo? He don’t
Hedo Turkoglu, according to The Oregonian, said this to the Blazers today:
Never mind.
Interesting. And even more interesting to read stuff from commenters on blogs. For two weeks they were telling us why they didn’t want Portland to sign the guy. Then today, when it appeared Turkoglu was coming here, they were talking about how brilliant it all was.
Now, they’re going to be back hating the guy. At least until he changes his mind again.

Wouldn’t it be classic if he turned us down because he’s tired of hot, sunny weather?
Dwight, sorry about my tone in some comments. I was grouchy.
Not so according to FOX Sports
http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/9756730/Report:-Turkoglu-agrees-to-terms-with-Blazers
Dwight, this is just normal negotiations correct?
If I am Hedo’s agent why wouldn’t I pull this? You know what the Blazers will offer, you make a stink and leave. Basically it is between the Blazers and the Raptors now. If they could have Bosh under contract longer I think the Raptors would have this in the bag.
I am REALLY tired of the couch GM’s (ie Bloggers mainly on Blazersedge) so annoying. Look if you have an opinion make it, but to say the Blazers are set at SF for next year is just plain ignorant.
LOL. Oh, Hedo. Quick is saying it was the wife who convinced him to look elsewhere. If that’s true, I want to send her a gift basket or two.
Now get back to the drawing board, KP. Lopsided trade perhaps? Here’s hoping.
Maybe it wasn’t just about the money.
Or maybe it was.
We’ll find out soon enough.
Props to Dwight. You were the one who questioned Hedo’s motivation.
It really is quite entertaining to watch the KP apologists come up with excuses for him. They walk around in a fog of dillusion about the supposed genuis of KP all the while he keeps screwing things up.
Keep it up guys, I’m preparing the popcorn.
KP epic fail! now we are stuck with nothing
Hedo is apparently going to get six million more from the Raps. Nothing Portland could really do, and am not really sure why Toronto would want to do this without having any commitment to stay in Toronto after next year.
Yep, definitely wants money more than a ring. Wonder if his wife had a say in things as well.
The money isn’t *that* different. Could be more having to do with his wife. The ESPN story reports his wife wants to live in a “more Euro” Toronto. Every married guy is shaking his head in understanding.
Mark,
What about our esplanade? That’s Euro.
Blazers are not stuck with nothing.
They can still make a lopsided trade up until the February trade deadline.
They will be fine.
In three years at the championship parade, we will say “Hedo who?”
Wow, this reminds me of the prom.
This reflects a potential character flaw in either Hedo or his wife. What about winning? Does it matter? Toronto is not going to win a championship any time soon. At least he would have had a reasonable chance here. And, oh by the way, if I don’t get a pay raise, I’m leaving town too!
Well Toronto is a much better city. I can understand why his wife would want to go there.
Gotta agree with you larry.
Larry, you’re ignorant. While I do like Toronto as a city, Portland as a whole is a much more genuine city.
As for jurkeyglue, who cares. I said all along he’s too old, he’ll be washed up in 2 years, and to go after him would be a big mistake. Once again KP is showing he basically got lucky taking a chance on an injury prone Brandon Roy in the draft. Before draft day everyone thought Tyrus Thomas was as good if not better than LaMarcus, and a whole bunch of people were questioning that swap. Well it basically came down to attitude was the reason we got LaMarcus, and luckily he is currently looking better than Thomas. But KP has screwed up TOO many times.
Not trading Travis for Devin Harris, because your COACH doesn’t want to, is ridiculous. I don’t give 2 rats @$$e$ what McMuffin thinks, he’s not the GM. But KP keeps letting him put his 2 cents in and what happens, we get pritchslapped by jurkeytube. Well screw em all. I’m sick of all these people saying OH in KP we trust, STFU. Seriously you blindly follow some guy just because of one deal? That’s ignorance for ya.
Once again here come the mediocre days of Blazer basketball where we’re at the bottom of the playoffs every year because either we target people we’ll never get, or never pounce on the opportune deals.
Money is great, but 20% more to go to a team like Toronto? I think I’ll take my 50 mill and stick with the team that has a chance at getting me a ring. You can be the MJ of Turkey, but do you want to be Bulls MJ… or Wizards MJ?
Blazer-dawg I would be willing to bet everything I own if you did a national poll Toronto would win in a land slide. I like Portland as a city but it’s not even close!!! Toronto is one of the best city’s in the world hands down.
Can anyone blame Hedo and Mrs Hedo for not wanting to come and live in a small town market, that is nothing more than a dog and pony show and thinks that it has made the “big time” by landing a temporary MLS team……. LOL !!!
lol
Maybe it was the Turkish music coming in from the airport. Maybe we should have gone with some Van Halen.
Guys this was never about Hedo. This entire fiasco can be laid at the feet of upper management. They completely and totally effed this thing up.
How easy will it be for KP and company to move forward with plan B? What has this done to team chemistry? How much would KP give to have Raef’s expiring contract back?
When it comes down to it, “CTC, baby, CTC”.
Franklin go back to your hole.. Unless of course you have a solution to what the Blazers need instead of killing Upper Management and Oden!! I would bet you have no suggestion and just are that guy, negative A$#@S!
Who now?
Lamar Odom might be a match, no he is not a great player, but the skills somewhat match what the Turk would have brought. And he can play the 3 and the 4 and is a good rebounder. Shoots a high percentage, though not from the outside.
Marvin Williams in the same vein as Lamar Odom, but doesn’t have the playmaking ability. Plus you already have Batum, Webster, and Outlaw as young and unproven players.
Paul Millsap or David Lee. Do you want to play that much for a backup big? Would likely signal Joel is being traded, perhaps for SF or PG (Gerald Wallace please!)
Mike Bibby only is able to take three’s now-a-days. Really slow and stiff for a PG. No thanks.
Andre Miller is not really an upgrade over Steve Blake.
Franklin,
Just curious, who do we hire as GM?
Did “upper management” wrong you in some way? You seem a like you have a personal issue with them.
Franklin you are a troll !!!!
Just kidding…. Had to write that before one of the KP zombies or an Odenade groupie did it….
Don’t you know that if you do not fall into lockstep with “True Belivers” in regards to KP, Oden, MLS, Little Lord Paulson or Scoutmaster Sam the Mayor you are nothing more than a troll in PDX…. Get with the program Franklin !!!! LOL !!!
KP just got played like a fiddle.
Toronto is a better city, a better place for anyone to live? (Sounds like an inferiority complex to me.) According to who, the travel bureau? According to a poll? According to the word on the street? Portland and Toronto are probably both reasonable places for people to live, and I am sure that a lot of people are happy in each city.
I hate to be amazed so much by the lack conceptual stability that people seem to reflect. Emotion seems to rule. Apparently Pritchard should be a mind reader and Hedo and his wife could not have endured the wasteland called Portland, with the 50 million he would have made here. We all know that Pritchard secretly isn’t happy here, that explains why he is screwing things up. I’m glad we have caught him in his Portophobia before it is too late.
Is Pritchard really supposed to read minds? Is Portland really so unbearable for the rich? Are we trying to speak in logical terms about personal preference and emotion? At the end of the day, Pritchard will have another plan. Life will go on, and soon they will sell the moon as the new hot spot.
Thank you Toronto!!!! 3 years from now when Hedo’s contract will be killing the Raptors cap space for a 10-15 minute a night bench player, we here in Portland can look back and be thankful that we got played.
Wow! I never knew this was the only blog to go to where so many fans have exlusive inside knowledge of all of our upper management dealings! Awesome!
Franklin, Blazer Dawg, Larry, please tell me how you’re getting all of your information? Secret cameras? phone taps? I’ll be sure to come back and read your posts every day so I can find out just all of the trades and free-agent pickups that KP and management have screwed up and turned down!
You guys are laughable…
If the dollars being reported are correct there is no way that this is “all about the money”, and here’s why:
The combined income tax rates in Portland are about 10% less than they are in Toronto. If you feed the projected numbers into a spreadsheet (and factor in that only half the games are played at home – income is allocated based on where the games are played) you’ll see that Toronto needs to pay about $5 million over the life of the contract just to break even with the Blazers’ offer.
Now add in the fact that Toronto has combined sales taxes of approximately 12% versus zero in Portland, and you can see that the salary difference, net of taxes, is negligible (assuming it is about $6 million over the duration of the contract as has been reported).
So unless Hedo’s agent is an idiot who knows nothing about taxes, or unless the pay difference is greater than what has been reported, it’s NOT simply about the money.
If we got played–in other words, the possibility of Hedo coming here for $50 million caused Toronto to up their offer to $56 million, which the Blazers can’t match (not without dumping salary in trades, or renouncing the rights to Victor Claver, at least)–so be it.
If KP had lowballed Hedo, or insulted his mother, that’s one thing. But if Hedo wants $56 million, the Raps are the only team that can make that offer.
Played? Maybe. But it’s Toronto that gets taken to the cleaners, not us.
Bumpity–this is a sports blog. In this forum, we frankly don’t give a shit about Sam the Tram–go back to bojack’s blog if you wanna whine about that crap.
KP you’re taken down by his wife……..Guess you are not as big a deal maker as you used to be. The selection was limited when you made your choice, now it is very narrow. Too Bad standing pat is going to leave the Trail Blazer just another good but not great team in the Western Conference. Portland has a very low score on the International flavor scale. Well at least the GO report was good.
Run with the big dogs or sit on the porch!
Good! We dodged a bullet!
wow, way to drive your price up Hedo. Can we move on now? There’s got to be more out there that we can do now with our cap and expendable talent.
Toronto is a nice place … His wife probably had a thing for Chris Bosh.
Why don’t we just sign Rasheed Wallace? He’s a free agent.
