Good luck to a good guy

June 30th, 2009 by Dwight Jaynes | Filed under Coaches, College football, Oregon Ducks.

Mike Bellotti officially moves into the big office tomorrow. I have no idea what it takes to be a good athletic director and I have a feeling not many others do, either. There are plenty of incompetent ones around and they seem to keep their jobs.

But I think Bellotti has a great blend of charm, poise and intelligence. I always thought he was a very bright guy who was a hell of a football coach. I believe his wit, charm and smarts just have to make him a very good AD.

I wish him the best of luck in what, in these times, cannot be an easy job. I hope the job makes him happy.

When I saw the headline, I thought for sure this post would be about Channing Frye.

Dwight, are you bi-polar? First you hate on the Ducks, then you show them love. Choose a side man! ;)

I totally agree with you, Dwight. And to your comment I would add that Mike Bellotti has proven to be extremely well organized and able to focus on issues while seeing the bigger picture. The other very big pluses he brings to the AD office are deep loyalty to the University of Oregon, and 20 years experience working within the athletic department and with the personnel.

He has also shown himself to be a man of character and courage in his professional and personal life.

I hate to see him leave the sideline, but I expect him to be an able administer and leader during a period that is apt to be challenging for college athletic departments.

We Ducks thank Pat Kilkenny for an outstanding job!

Hell, Beaver fans would have you believe that Mike Bellotti was not liked or respected by anyone.
