Glanville “resigns” — who is next?

Jim Beseda has a very complete story up already right here. Included is a list of potential replacements. It’s a big hire for that athletic director — critical to that school’s athletic future. I hope he does his due diligence.

The name that interests most football people around here is Robin Pflugrad, a very experienced assistant coach in the Northwest and also a former Viking player. Be nice to get a Vik to head up the program. He might even invite Mouse back to help — as he should have never been pushed out of the program last summer. The offense wasn’t broke, the defense was.

Maybe this guy: Charlie Weis looks like Rodney Dangerfield, me thinks.

  2. Panama says:

Whoever they hire, give mouse the offense to run! The new coach won’t regret it and it will be an exciting brand of football this town needs

  3. BarryTheMuslim says:

Everyone knows it’s going to be Pflugrad. And people need to remember that M. Davis is 76 or 77 years old. He can be used as an advisor, but any new coach needs to be given the freedom and authority to do it “his way”.

  4. John P says:

If Mouse doesn’t want to come back as a full blown coach, at least use him as a “mentor” for the offense. With his age, recent marrage, and all he’s done for football, I wouldn’t be suprised if he didn’t want to coach anymore.

If PSU waits a few more weeks, Rick Neuheisel might be available.

After all, smooth-talking self promoters are what PSU football needs, right?

  6. lefty says:

Mouse is a class guy. I am glad he has stayed here. Whoever takes PSU job needs to use him for advice, but let Mouse stay retired from the full day stuff.

  7. Pat says:

Good day for PSU football. I have to believe Pflugrad is the front runner. Don’t know if Davis would fit into what Pflugrad wants to do or not, but Davis is a guy who likes a lot of control. If Pflugrad isn’t willing to grant that much autonomy, then I think Davis stays retired. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but if Pflugrad’s running the show, then he’s got to have his own people in the mix. If Davis can fit in, then fine.

  8. Matty says:

    Maybe Dennis Erickson!

He needs to get fired from an NFL gig first, before he restarts his career cycle with “mediocre NW college football program”.

  9. MXP says:

There is this guy named Jaynes who knows everything there is to know that is worth knowing. Maybe he is in the mix for the job. That would clean up some internet space for useful information.

Why would you waste your time commenting on a blog you don’t like? Weird.

Anyway, resigning lets the University save some money without having Jerry on there books for a couple more years. Class move by Jerry.

I love the fact that MXP still takes the time to post here.

The particulars about Pflugrad being pushed out at Oregon are as follows:

He sucked at teaching receivers how to run a route or catch a football, so he was shown the door. If PSU wants to continue their long standing tradition of sucking, Pflugrad is the man.

Don’t know the background on Pflugrad, but I don’t really care if he was a good position coach. We should be asking the questions: can he recruit, can he motivate, and can he lead? Being a position coach and head coach are two completely different machines.
