By the way, it’s not as if Lamar Odom doesn’t have a connection to the Trail Blazer coaching staff

July 17th, 2009 by Dwight Jaynes | Filed under Coaches, NBA, Trail Blazers.

This is from Lamar’s Wiki page:

In 1997, Odom attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and was enrolled in summer classes. Following an academic scandal, an NCAA inquiry found Odom received payments amounting to $5,600 from booster David Chapman.[3] Coach Bill Bayno was fired and UNLV was placed on probation for four years. Odom then transferred to the University of Rhode Island, but had to sit out the 1997-98 season.

Bayno, of course, is now a Portland assistant coach.

Please, no Odom. Every time he plays the Blazers, he taunts everyone and takes cheap shots. The thought of having that guy on our team makes me sick. I don’t know if I’d even be able to watch any more. Plus, he is entering his 30’s, and doesn’t show up every night. Please, NO!!!!!

UNLV convinced a lot schools that they’d better get much more sophisticated in how they pay their players.

    The Backdoor isn’t just a basketball play…

Odom left UNLV because of a scandal to GO PLAY FOR JIM HARRICK at Rhode Island. Hilarious.

I may be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure Lamar Odom went straight to the NBA out of high school.

He did play for Harrick at RI.

Lamar was big time at Rhode Island. In fact, in many of the games I watched during his year at RI, he brought the ball up and set the offense. Everything went through him. I think most of us were convinced that he was going to be a big star in the NBA. Not quite.

Nice angle on this post. Good job, this is why I come to the blog.

I’m a fan of Odom’s talent. I’m not a fan of his work ethic, age, or how banged up he gets. Last year was the first year in some time that he didn’t have braces or wraps covering every inch of skin that his jersey didn’t. How long are we going to go on pondering how good this guy could be if he realized his talent? He’s just one of those guys that never will. Good, but never great.
