Wow. This one really caught me by surprise:
Walton, in a statement: “As I return after a grueling multi-year, life-threatening, life-changing ordeal with back problems, it is time to dedicate the rest of my life to service. … Thanks everybody — for everything.”
Good luck, Bill. You’ll be a success in whatever you choose to do.

I know I’m in the minority here, but I grew to enjoy Bill’s broadcasting over the years. We all have our guilty pleasures, and listening to Walton’s pontificating was one of them.
Oh, for one more “throw it down, big man!” for old time’s sake…
Walton cracks me up! A sampling of Waltonisms: “Noooooh….that’s a TERRIBLE shot!!” And, “There have always been three kinds of people who have not liked me: Losing coaches, bad referees, and poor and undisciplined ballplayers.”
He should put down the microphone and pick up a pen–he and Charley Rosed could be dueling basketball curmudgeons.
good luck bill! get out of smell a and move back to portland!
My band played a gig that Walton attended and we became email buds of sorts. The tone of his emails is invariably positive and inspirational. His comments always make me feel better about life.
He left everything out there on the court for the fans and the game and he’s paying a huge price for it to this day.
All without whining. This is a great person and Portland was lucky he came through here.
Jerry Garcia would be proud.
Didn’t you tell this story already? Ah well but anyway-Jerry Garcia would be stoned
I don’t mind telling a story again. It’s the flashbacks that worry me.
Walton always has had a flair for sudden change of direction. I think he is easily bored
Never a dull moment with the mountain man
Love him or hate him. I have taken my turn on both those rides. As the Big Red Head has come to find his peace with Portland. I have come to find some peace in Walton. Peace baby!
Unfortunately we wont miss Bill because we get Van Gundy. What’s up with these guys? Quick to make a statement, and then having to retract or hold on to something they obviously said before thinking. While on the subject of poor analysts, where did Portland get Bob Akamian?
It makes me appreciate the NFL guys.
Will miss you Bill, already do! The 70’s, what a time, searching for Patty Hearst and Jack Scott in Bill’s backyard! What a hoot! And loving every minute of Blazers basketball. Now, eh.. not so much.
